‘Tis the Season
A bit of Christmas cheer
My sister sent this lovely Christmas centerpiece. I smile every time I see it.
Gonna’ Need a Bigger Mantle
Our mantle currently has twenty-five stockings. By next year we’ll add three more–one new birth and a couple of in-law grandchildren. Who would have guessed sixty years ago my husband and I would have such a legacy!
Autumn Chores
I ran so late trimming my hedges this year that actually was well past the season for when I usually do this chore. I finally got the ones in front of the house done, but the ones around the patio in the back of our house still aren’t done. If I keep dithering, I’ll be doing them in the snow.
Christmas Tree
One day in early November, on my usual way home from an art class, I came upon this beautifully decorated tree. It turned out to be the Mayor’s tree.
My only Christmas lights
I posted recently that I didn’t have any Christmas lights on my house. Out front, that’s true. But I do have lights on our screened porch in back. We can see them through the great room windows.
Looking a lot like Christmas!
Going to pick out our Christmas tree this weekend. For years, we’ve gone to the same Boy Scout lot – usually on the coldest, ickiest night! There are so many pros and cons to both real and artificial trees. Which do you prefer?
Ready for Christmas
I’ve got my Christmas wreath up, so I’m ready for the holidays. No lights for us this year. Are you putting up lights at your house?
Count Your Blessings
I am thankful for my faith, health, family, friends, part-time job, our home, and all the freedoms we enjoy in America. These freedoms came and are preserved at a price. Many men and women have put their lives at risk, some losing all, to protect them. I am thankful for their service and worthy sacrifice. May we never forget this.
Fall and Winter Trail Walks
There are advantages of hiking trails in late fall and winter as opposed to summer. First, of course, there’s the lack of sweat-producing heat…no cooling scarf or ice water required. Then, there’s the enhanced view. Fewer leaves let us see the creek or the hillsides from many places where the views are hidden by summer foliage. To top it off, the earthy smells and satisfying crunch of fallen leaves give one a unique seasonal experience. On the ridge overlooking the Missouri River at Weston State Park
